Bay Area Night Doulas

I am a single first time mother and welcomed twins. in October 2018 Perhaps my best parenting accomplishment to date was hiring Margaret as my babies' postpartum doula. She was an absolute godsend to me and my children. In addition to her skill and experience taking care of babies, she was also unbelievably kind and patient with me as I peppered her with questions each night when she arrived. She helped by recommending needed (and pointing out unnecessary) baby gear, establishing the proper routines, encouraging me, and, more than anything, giving me the confidence I needed to care for my new babies. Oh, and did I mention the sleep?! After carrying twins, I thought I knew what exhaustion was. And then they arrived! Margaret's nightly arrival signaled to me that my sanity was about to be revived and that I could turn off my sleep deprived brain long enough to face the coming day. Knowing that she was here to take care of my babies, I could let go and get the rest I needed. Those early days (especially as I was healing from my c-section), feeling overwhelmed was pretty much the status quo. Without Margaret, I absolutely cannot imagine how I would have gotten through it. I recommend her without hesitation and encourage anyone on the fence about investing in this kind of postpartum support.

I’m a first time parent and can only speak from my own experience having her as newborn doula. Margaret came in as very needed when we first return from hospital. The most important thing in my mind is trust. She provided exactly that. We were able to sleep and rest as she performs her job. We were able to trust her by having her to look after our newborn. With you having her as night nanny for your kid, I’m not sure if the scope of work will be different, but she performs anything related to baby stuff such as feeding, diaper change and washing the bottles as a experienced veteran doula.

I am so glad Bay Doula Connect matched us with Margaret when my husband and I, as first time parents, really needed night support for our newborn. Margaret is kind, gentle, and compassionate. I felt comfortable with her looking after my baby at night knowing he was in good hands. She diligently woke me up to breastfeed him every couple of hours and helped me squeeze in a few extra hours of sleep by burping, changing and soothing my baby after feeding sessions. I was also recovering from my delivery at the time and Margaret was always ready to support me. As a first time mom, I also had a lot of questions and fears on my mind that she talked me through while I nursed my son. Margaret’s years of experience, knowledge about infant care and lactation advice helped me feel more prepared as a new mom. I would highly recommend Margaret to anyone look for a night doula for their infant.

This review is for Margaret who we worked with as a postpartum night doula. Margaret is amazing!! My husband and I wanted to try to do the first couple weeks on our own because we were both on leave, so we decided to start working with Margaret three nights a week for two weeks and then 5 nights a week after that. It worked out well, but in retrospect we could have used her 5 nights a week from the beginning to help recovery from the delivery. On nights Margaret was helping us we, pretty much right as the clock hit 10 pm, we'd hear the front door opening... she was so reliably on-time!! She was always curious to hear how the day went with our son in detail, and then offered some ideas on how to best handle things whenever we asked for her perspective. We were so relieved to learn from.
